We've just dropped our latest collection of ties, and it's all about the polka dots!
Believe it or not, we've had the idea for these polka dot ties brewing for nearly a decade. We were inspired by the success of our two-color striped ties and figured those same winning combos would look awesome in polka dots.
But, as life would have it, other projects kept popping up, and the polka dot dream got pushed to the back burner. Until now, that is.
After 10 years in the making, it was important that we get the polka dots just right. Too big or too small and it just wouldn't work. Back in the day, we might've gone for big dots, but when we got down to business and seriously started working on this pattern late last year, we decided smaller dots were the way to go. We wanted these ties to be versatile enough for any occasion, whether it's casual or formal.
So, here we are, with seven polka dotted color combos to choose from. Most of them are inspired by school and sports team colors, like maroon and gold, hunter green and gold, dark purple and gold, navy blue and red, and black and old gold. But we've also thrown in a couple more options for those dressier moments: White and black, and navy blue and blush pink.
If you've tried our formal striped ties, you'll love these polka dot ones too. They're made from the same durable polyester, with a ribbed background and woven polka dots on top. And speaking of dots, they're about 1/8 in. in size—just big enough to make a statement without going overboard.
Find our new polka dot ties in 3-inch narrow neckties, pre-tied band collar bow ties, and 12-inch by 12-inch pocket squares. Check them out and let us know what you think!

Kim H. is no stranger to running. As a member of two running clubs in Minneapolis, she conquered a scorching 5K race last summer and her first-place finish was captured on photo. Inspired by her win, her proud father, Todd, set out to create a one-of-a-kind, personalized Christmas gift for Kim's fiancé.
“Kim's fiancé wears a tie to work each day, making TieMart the perfect option for something special that could also be part of his daily life,” said Todd.
An internet search led Todd to TieMart and their custom photo ties. He sent in a cropped image of his daughter crossing the finish line on the 90-degree night. (We told you it was a scorcher!)
“The plan was for the tie to look innocently like a black tie when a suit coat is buttoned,” Todd said.
Here's the first photo Todd sent TieMart to create a custom photo tie.
TieMart’s design team reached back out to see if Todd had an uncropped photo available. The team suspected they could position the image in the bottom of the tie, without a border necessary, and achieve the look he envisioned.
With the original photo in hand, TieMart worked their editing magic to brighten the colors just enough to make Kim pop even more in the finished product. Once the adjustments were made, the design phase kicked off.
Here's the uncropped, original photo TieMart used for the design, which was taken by photographer Tim Sullivan. The larger image file allowed for a clearer finished product.
It was a twilight race, so when Kim crossed the finish line it was already dark outside. The night sky, however, helped Todd's vision of a nearly solid black tie come to life. TieMart’s design team filled the tie's tip with Kim's image. The night sky seamlessly blended into the desired black background.
A digital sample of the photo tie was emailed to Todd for approval. Todd signed off on the design and it was time to create the final product: A men’s slim necktie.
Here's a look at the digital tie sample TieMart sent to Todd.
This process took place at TieMart's Illinois location using dye sublimation. The design was printed onto a special transfer paper and then permanently heat-pressed onto a pre-manufactured slim tie. As this method is done manually for each tie, TieMart can produce individual custom tie orders or larger quantities if needed.
The gift was a hit. According to Todd, Kim’s fiancé was very surprised and excited to have a tie in his arsenal that shows off his fiancé.
The custom photo tie was printed via dye sublimation, which permanently transfers the design to a pre-manufactured necktie.
“Working with TieMart was great. [The designer] Kari made things go very smoothly and was a great help,” said Todd.
As for Kim, she recently headed to Orlando, FL for another race—the Olympic Trials Marathon!
Special thanks to Tim Sullivan, the photographer responsible for capturing the image used on the tie.
TieMart can create custom ties for gifts, individuals and companies. In small quantities or for rush orders, custom ties are created in their Mundelein, IL warehouse. (Larger orders can be manufactured overseas.) The process is affordable ($29.95 each or less depending on quantities) and orders can be turned around quickly. To get started, send your artwork on their custom photo tie page. TieMart puts the design together and sends a free digital sample to approve.

This is the second year in a row that we loaned out our ties to local high school students, giving them a taste of real-world experience and a chance to practice their photography skills.
The students were learning about color theory in class, so we provided a variety of our holiday-themed solid color and striped bow ties where they could apply this lesson and let their creative sparks fly.
Working in small groups, the students crafted festive scenes with props, backdrops and, of course, our ties.
The classroom was transformed into a photography studio. The high schoolers traded natural light (i.e. the sun) for the glow of flashlights and other artificial lighting. Several students leveraged this challenge and filled their photos with warm, holiday lighting.
Believe it or not, one of the most difficult parts of photographing a bow tie is getting it to sit upright—and stay that way. It’s no easy feat, so we were impressed to see several students snap the bow ties with nearly perfect posture.
Without further ado, take a peek at some more of the photos they captured. The students did such a nice job!
We loved being a part of this hands-on experience and offering feedback to each group. It's always great to see our products through a fresh lens, too!

Behind the scenes, their impressive preventative maintenance program ensures that every bus, from the wheels to its engine, is in tip-top shape for its next journey. Now, let's talk about the MVPs: The 175+ drivers. These individuals don't just drive from point A to B. They go the extra mile to ensure each trip is memorable, while maintaining a sense of familiarity for those who have traveled with Holiday Tours before.
The family behind Holiday Tours believes in consistency every time you board one of their many buses. Not only does the entire fleet boast the same look, but the drivers are unmistakable in their signature red neckties. (Insider’s secret: Those ties are all pre-tied clip-ons for safety reasons.)
Nearly a decade ago, Holiday Tours found themselves looking for a new tie supplier when their local source retired and closed shop. That search led them to TieMart.
“After testing samples from a few different suppliers, we found working with TieMart to be the best fit for our organization,” said Jonathan M., Vice President of Holiday Tours.
For special occasions and a personal touch, Holiday Tours is known to tailor the ride. Thanks to TieMart’s wide color variety of clip-on ties, the company can easily change the driver’s uniform tie to match sports teams, organizations and events they’re chartering. Talk about a hat trick! This soccer player made quite the impression at his team’s awards ceremony by showing up in a custom tie featuring his team’s logo, club owner and coach! Let’s take a closer look at this one-of-a-kind tie.
As his team’s captain, Logan was determined to make the season's awards ceremony memorable. While a themed soccer tie would do, he instead decided to take his tie to the next level with a surprise custom tie.
While TieMart specializes in custom logo ties and custom photo ties, Logan wanted to combine the two designs and sent over both the club’s logo and a photo of the club owner and coach.
TieMart’s design team started by creating the most popular custom tie design used for sports teams: The all-over logo. This repeats the logo across the tie in a not-too-large and not-too-small size. Logan chose a black background to make the blue and gold logo stand out, not to mention complementing the dressier ambiance of the ceremony.
Next it was time to add the photo. The photo was large enough to fill the tip of the tie. Using some editing magic, TieMart’s design team seamlessly faded the photo into the logo.
Logan approved the digital design and it was time to create the actual tie. This was done at TieMart’s Illinois location using a process called dye sublimation. With a special transfer paper, the design was printed and permanently heat pressed onto a pre-manufactured necktie. Because the process is done manually on each tie, TieMart can create single orders of custom ties (or more, if needed).
Needless to say, the design grabbed the attention of the club owner and coach (and others!) at the awards ceremony. In fact, the evening ended with a silent auction benefiting the team and Logan decided to put his tie up for bidding. It was a bidding war!
TieMart can create custom ties for sports teams and individuals. Custom ties are created in their Mundelein, IL warehouse. The process is affordable ($29.95 each or less depending on quantities) and orders can be turned around quickly. To get started, send your artwork on the custom logo tie page. The company puts the design together and sends a free digital sample to approve.

A clip-on bow tie is pre-tied, so you don't need to know how to tie a bow tie to wear one. Phew! However, you still need to know how to put it on—and there is a trick. This step-by-step guide will show you how to quickly put on a clip-on bow tie and keep it securely in place all day (and night). Let’s finish getting dressed.
Remove the bow tie from its packaging. The front of the bow tie looks like a normal tied bow tie. The back of the bow tie should have two skinny clips that stick out horizontally from the middle and are usually about an inch long on either side.
Hold the bow tie face down so that the metal clips are facing you and the bow is facing away.
Firmly grasp the bow on both sides, with your forefingers in the front and thumbs in the back, and fold them downward. This will open the clips away from the fabric of the bow tie. At this point the bow tie should look like a butterfly. (Note that we changed the direction of the bow tie in the photo below to better illustrate how your bow tie should look.)
A mirror will help with this step, especially if you’re new to clip-on bow ties. One at a time, position each side of your collar between the fabric of the bow tie and the metal clips. (NOT between the slightly opened metal clips. See footnote below.) In this photo, that's the space displayed between the bow tie and the clip.
In the photo below, we have tucked that clip behind the shirt collar so it's no longer visible looking straight on.
Check the positioning of your bow tie. Is it straight? Awesome! Now you can take both sides of the bow tie and fold them back against your collar, closing the clips and securely attaching the bow to your shirt collar. We find it easiest to again position your thumbs in the back of the bow tie and forefingers on the front, while pressing down with those forefingers and pushing the thumbs slightly forward.
Tip: If you can't get the bow tie straight by securing both sides at once, instead close one side, adjust as needed, and then close the other side.
Many people put their shirt collar between the metal clips of the clip-on bow tie. However, we find that the bow tie stays in place more securely with the collar between the fabric and clip.
Watch the space between the metal clips as you open and close the bow tie. The clips move closer and farther apart as you move it. When completely in a straight line, there is no space between the metal clips. But many clip-on bow ties extend slightly further than this when closed and the space between the clips actually opens back up. It’s difficult to see this spacing when putting a bow tie on, so we find it easier and more secure to always place the shirt collar between the bow tie’s fabric.
Now that you’ve attached your clip-on bow tie, all that’s left is to add a pair of suspenders, a suit jacket or wear the bow on its own. When you’re ready to remove the bow, simply grasp the bow tie on each side and push forward with your thumbs.

Look around. The new “it color” these days is fuchsia! This bold dark pink continues to pop up in fashion and design, and we only expect it to grow more popular as we move into summer. But, let’s be honest, fuchsia isn’t a typical color in a man’s wardrobe and that can make it overwhelming to wear. Let’s break down this trendy hue so you can confidently wear fuchsia ties all year long.
Insider’s secret: A lot of retail companies make up their color names, but we didn’t make up fuchsia. The color comes from the plant fuchsia, which blooms vibrant tear-drop flowers. The flowers are often two-toned, with the color we call fuchsia paired with darker purple or light pink to nearly-white petals. The plant is native to Central and South America, so its exotic and tropical vibes are certainly justified.
Fuchsia isn't just a name. The color comes from the shrub fuchsia.
We get it. Some people see fuchsia as pink and some see it as purple. Everyone perceives color a bit differently, so it’s not surprising that fuchsia is actually a mix of pink and purple. A purplish pink. Hold it up to a true purple, and it will look more pink. Hold it up to a true pink and those purple tones will stand out.
In fashion, fuchsia is usually classified as pink. A dark pink with purple hues.
Fuchsia is a mix of pink and purple.
So now that you know what fuchsia is, you might still be wondering how it’s different from a few of those similar shades, like hot pink and magenta. Let’s start with hot pink. Hot pink is a bright pink color that’s lighter than fuchsia. Unlike fuchsia, there’s no confusing hot pink for a purple. Hot pink is clearly part of the pink color family.
As for magenta, this color is very, very similar to fuchsia. It’s a purplish pink. However, it tends to have more purple tones than fuchsia. Held side by side to fuchsia, magenta will look a bit more purple and subdued. If you see it alone, away from fuchsia, you may not pick up on the difference. Again, remember that retailers pick their own colors names too, so magenta can vary a bit from store to store.
Here's a look at how fuchsia differs from hot pink and magenta.
While shades of pink were once considered spring and summer colors, today people are wearing pink year round. This is largely in part to what we’re going to talk about below. While fuchsia was once the main focus of an outfit or paired with other similarly bright colors, today we’re seeing it mixed with darker earth tones. Pairing fuchsia with deeper “cold-weather” colors means it fits right in during fall and winter, too. So quick answer: You can now wear fuchsia year round, depending on the colors you pair it with.
Fuchsia is a bold color, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep the rest of your outfit completely neutral. Let's start simple. Since they sit so close together on the color wheel, fuchsia certainly matches classic red and dark purples. However, there are more options, too.
The last time fuchsia was this popular (in the early twenty-teens), we usually saw it accented with equally bold and bright colors. Lime green, hot pink, yellow, orange, turquoise, etc.
In the past, fuchsia has been paired with colors that are equally as bright, like hot lime green and orange.
While you can still pair it with any of those colors, today we're seeing fuchsia mixed with some unexpected earth tones and we love it! Interestingly enough, a lot of these earth tones are deeper versions of the colors we mentioned above.
Burgundy was the first trending color to make an appearance with fuchsia and really gives it a completely different look than the combos we mentioned above.
Olive green and fuchsia is an unexpected combo, but these contrasting colors surprisingly work well together.
Navy blue can certainly be paired with fuchsia, or you can mix things up with a deep teal, jade or more subdued dark blue.
Darker yellows or subdued golds are another earthy choice that complements fuchsia.
Today we're seeing fuchsia paired with deeper tones, like burgundy and olive green.
Fuchsia ties and black suits are a classic, can’t-fail-you combination. This sleek combo can be worn as an everyday look or for a formal event. The same goes for fuchsia ties and gray suits. The darker the gray suit, the more formal you can take it. A fuchsia and light gray suit looks great too, but this is often a daytime look, whether that means for the office or an afternoon wedding.
However, these classic combinations aren’t what’s trending today. Navy blue suits are the suit color to wear right now and, yes, a fuchsia tie will complement it really well. The look is crisp, clean and modern and can go from daytime to night, casual to formal. Paired with white, the combo almost has a nautical feel. However, you can bring accent colors into this combination as well, and we’ll get to that shortly. (Keep reading!)
Now, hear us out. The next fuchsia suit and tie combo might be a little hard to imagine. But, trust us, it looks so good. If you have a brown suit you’re just not getting enough use of, adding a fuchsia tie is another way to wear it. To keep things modern, fuchsia will look best when paired with not-so-classic browns, like tawny or caramel. This is what a lot of brown suits come in these days.
If you really want to go for something different, two of the colors we mentioned previously can be worn with fuchsia ties: Burgundy and olive green. These certainly aren’t suit colors we see in most men’s wardrobes, but if you’re looking to purchase a head-turning new suit you might want to consider these shades.
First, when we’re talking about accessories, this isn’t the tie. These are the rest of the optional pieces you might add to your suit and tie combo: Pocket squares, lapel pins, tie bars, cufflinks and socks.
Look back up at “What Colors Match Fuchsia.” This is going to be your inspiration for which color accessories to pair with fuchsia. Accessories are easiest to pick out in spring and summer when fuchsia can be worn with pops of other bright colors like an orange, lime green or turquoise pocket square and a red or yellow lapel pin. Combine any of these colors, or add in some neutrals, and make your own combo!
However, we think fuchsia is the most fun to wear in fall and winter, even if this is the most challenging time as well. When the temperature is downright cold, pair darker earth-toned accessories with your fuchsia ties and black, navy or gray suits.
Here are some options: A fuchsia tie and burgundy pocket square and/or lapel pin. A fuchsia tie and gold bar pocket square. A fuchsia tie and fern pocket square square. Again, you can certainly pick out your own combination from these colors or mix in some neutrals.
If the temperature is dropping, keep those fuchsia ties on hand. Here it's paired with a merlot (burgundy) flower lapel pin and fern (olive green) pocket square for a trending cold-weather combo.
You! Some people argue that fuchsia only looks good with certain skin tones or hair colors, but we say baloney. In menswear, when you’re adding fuchsia to an outfit via a tie or other accessory anyone can wear the color. These accessories are essentially small accents used to enhance your overall look, not be the overall look. You’re simply not wearing enough of the color to limit its use. So as long as you’re not pulling out a fuchsia suit and dress shirt to go with your fuchsia necktie, don’t worry about who fuchsia looks good on. It looks good on you.
However you decide to wear fuchsia, finding just the right tie is easy. TieMart carries a wide selection of fuchsia ties in solid colors, stripes and patterns. Starting with solid colors, there are three fuchsia options: Fuchsia, fuchsia premium and bright fuchsia.
The fuchsia and fuchsia premium ties are nearly an exact match in color, but vary in fabric. The regular fuchsia ties are made from a heavyweight fabric with slight ribbing, if you look close. It’s a more affordable option than the premium line, which is upgraded in a thicker fabric with a smooth finish and satin sheen. We suggest the fuchsia premium ties for formal occasions, like weddings and prom.
Get comfortable wearing fuchsia with a solid tie. This fuchsia premium tie will stand out for formal occasions.
Bright fuchsia is just that: A brighter fuchsia. These ties are made from a lighter weight fabric that has a silky feel and shiny finish. This is a popular choice for dressed up occasions and sometimes matches other retailers’ fuchsias better than the standard fuchsia.
This bright fuchsia tie is a little bit lighter than our regular fuchsia.
Fuchsia striped ties are an option, too. This is a preppier, collegiate look that combines two colors, like white, black, navy blue, kelly green or hot pink. These ties can be worn for special occasions or for the office.
A classic two-color fuchsia striped tie is a step beyond the solid tie while still keeping matching easy.
For a pattern tie, take a look at this bright fuchsia paisley. You’re probably putting more thought into your outfit than your normal go-to when wearing a fuchsia tie. But this pattern doesn’t make things more difficult. This tie is a tone-on-tone design so it’s as easy to incorporate as a solid one.
This fuchsia paisley tie keeps matching simple since the pattern is a tone-on-tone design.
If a regular tie isn't your style, TieMart's fuchsia ties come in more sizes too, including extra long ties, slim ties, bow ties and even children's sizes so you can make your fuchsia look your own.

April 1, 2023 (Mundelein, IL)
Online neckwear retailer TieMart, Inc. is embracing technology and looking to the future. As of today, April 1, 2023, the company announced that all product photography will be created by artificial intelligence (AI).
The company has been testing the technology and found the renderings to be interesting and quite the timesaver compared to taking photos of the actual products.
“Going forward, you may find that there are too many fingers, hands or other items out of place in our lifestyle photos. But, remember, it’s not about the people in the photos, it’s about the products and colors,” said TieMart’s head of photography.
TieMart shared some of the photos their customers can expect to see across the company’s website, email marketing and social media presence in the coming weeks.
In this photo, TieMart’s photographer told the AI program to create a photo of a man tying a necktie. Perhaps it's easier to tie a tie with a spare finger.
Here’s another example, in which the AI was instructed to create a photo of a man wearing a yellow tie casually. That tie is certainly yellow.
And last, but not least, here’s an example of “A man wearing socks outside.”
April Fools! It's safe to say that we'll be keeping our cameras around.

Neckties and menswear go hand in (neck), but this TieMart customer is proving that ties are for women, too.
Meet Elle, or the “Girl In The Hallway” as she’s known on Instagram
Each day, Elle posts what she’s wearing from the stairwell of her apartment building.
And what she’s wearing is something to see, from her shirt to her shoes. It’s always a completely new and unexpected look thanks to her very (very) large wardrobe that is a mix of old and new.
Besides many of her outfits including a TieMart necktie, Elle’s signature style embraces bold colors and patterns. She’s not afraid to clash those colors and patterns, add (multiple) layers, put on a hat and change out her purse each day. Her Instagram handle, @funky_fearless_fashionista, is a perfect fit.
We recently had the chance to chat with Elle and learn more about her unconventional style. Keep reading!
Describe your style.
My style is maximalist. I love playing with layers, combining unusual colors, and mixing various prints.
Where do you find fashion inspiration?
Most of my fashion inspiration comes from the real life women that I follow on Instagram. The other part comes from perusing runway and street style photos on Pinterest. I am always excited about the looks that I can recreate from my existing wardrobe.
When and why did you start posting your outfits?
I started posting my outfits about 7 years ago. I was in the middle of a career change and looking to move away from Food & Beverage management. Other than returning to school to study for a degree in Fashion Merchandising, I was at a complete loss as to how to break into the fashion industry. I thought that Instagram might be helpful in this venture as a styling portfolio showing my creative side.
Where do you find most of your clothing pieces?
My clothing pieces are a combination of fast fashion, off-price, thrifting, and some luxury. I have always been a bargain hunter. If it looks good and is affordable (relative to me) then I am going to buy it.
Do you have a favorite outfit?
I don’t have a favorite outfit because I love different styles of clothing too much. No one singular look can define me. With that being said, there are outfits that I’ve been proud of composing and enjoyed wearing more than others. There is a certain sense of self-confidence when all the elements come together and an outfit feels just “right.”
Gotta ask. How big is your closet?
Everyone asks about my closet! For starters there isn’t just ONE. I have two hanging closets, two closets with shelving units, two wardrobes, a storage unit and under-the-bed storage bins. A little bit of everything is everywhere, but very neatly organized in the Rolodex of my mind.
Why neckties?
I work for a luxury menswear retailer. Our tailored clothing, though modern, is typically made with a nod towards the classic suiting of London’s Savile Row. Ties and pocket squares are naturally a part of the gentleman’s dress code. When I first started working for my company, I was intimidated by the notion of neckties: the tying process and the association with the elite. Over time, I got much more comfortable with the concept. Now, when accessorizing, I am more likely to reach for a necktie faster than a necklace. They are a great way to introduce visual interest through print, color and texture. Not to mention that there is something about wearing a tie that feels polished.
It’s been awhile, but do you remember how you found TieMart?
I remember exactly how I found TieMart. It was through one of my shopping whims. I was planning an outfit with all rainbow elements and felt that I needed a rainbow tie to really push the look to the extreme. So, I googled and TieMart came up as an option. I was immediately hooked. The color combinations of the diagonal stripe ties seemed limitless. It was a great place to start my tie collection. (Unfortunately, I didn’t place my rainbow tie order in time to execute my rainbow look, but now I am thinking it might be time for a re-do).
Anything you’d like to add?
I would just like to add that as the world seems to be moving towards the acceptance of a more casual lifestyle and men seem to be abandoning their ties more frequently, I would say let’s NOT forgo the “drama“ and “showmanship” so easily! For any ladies reading this, I would say that ties aren’t just for men. They can be fun and beautifully elevate womenswear, too.
Thanks so much to Elle for taking the time to discuss her look! Be sure to follow her Instagram at @funky_fearless_fashionista to see what she wears next.

The presidential or straight fold is the pocket square at its most basic: Crisp, clean and elegant. Only a thin, straight strip of the pocket square should be visible above the lip of your jacket pocket. Use this pocket square fold when you want maximum formality and elegance. Traditionally, a white pocket square is used. Solid color pocket squares are an acceptable alternative, but you’ll want to avoid patterns for this fold.
Lay the pocket square unfolded and flat.
Fold the pocket square in half lengthwise.
Fold the pocket square in half again so that you have a small square. Note: this and the following images have been enlarged to show the folds up close and are not the same scale as the first two photos.
Fold the square in half again.
Fold the bottom of the rectangle almost up to the top edge of the pocket square.
Flip the pocket square over and decide which edge you want showing out of your pocket (the bottom rolled edge, or the top crisp edge).
Place the folded pocket square into your jacket pocket so that only a thin strip of fabric is showing. You may need to remove it from your pocket and readjust as necessary depending on the width and depth of your pocket. The Presidential/Straight Fold is the most basic of folds, but also the most formal.
For a more intricate fold, take a look at our step-by-step directions on how to achieve the winged puff fold.
TieMart carries a wide range of pocket square patterns and sizes to meet your needs. Many of our pocket squares have matching ties and bow ties available for purchase. We carry large quantities of these accessories, so we're always ready to fulfill your group uniform or individual order.

Go a step further with the three point fold. This pocket square fold is perfect for when you want to add a bit of flair to your attire. This is a fold you can wear any way you want: Casually without a tie, to the office with a suit and tie or on your wedding day.
Get your fingers ready. You're just seven steps away from adding this pocket square fold to your jacket. As a reference, we’re using a 12-inch by 12-inch pocket square in our guide.
Lay the pocket square unfolded and flat.
Fold the pocket square in half lengthwise. (Skip this step for smaller sized pocket squares, if preferred.)
Fold the pocket square in half again so that you have a small square. (Skip this step for smaller sized pocket squares, if preferred.)
Note: This and the following images have been enlarged to show the folds up close and are not the same scale as the first two photos.
Rotate the square so it looks like a diamond.
Fold the bottom tip of the diamond to the top tip, but slightly off center.
Fold the bottom left corner of the pocket square diagonally up at an angle, so you have three points side by side, as equally spaced and sized as possible.
Fold the bottom right corner across to the left edge of the folded pocket square.
Now that you've folded the pocket square, simply slide it into your jacket pocket. Only the three tips of the fold should be seen peeking out.
Have you noticed that all suit jackets are not created equal? You may find your pocket to be narrow, shallow or deep. Adjust accordingly by tucking your pocket square in a bit more or less.
The three point fold can take a few tries to line up the points neatly, so don’t give up! We find that using an iron creates crisp creases that help the pocket square hold its shape, which we recommend for those formal occasions or important business meetings.

Enhance your look. The two point fold is a business and formal wear appropriate pocket square fold. Despite being suited for dressier occasions, creating it is pretty simple. It’s folded in the same manner as the one point fold, just slightly off-center to create two points.
Add it to your jacket! Here are the 8 straightforward steps to the two point fold. FYI, we're using a 12- by 12-inch pocket square as an example.
Rotate the pocket square about 30 degrees so it is almost a diamond shape.
Fold the bottom right tip up towards the top left tip, but keep it slightly off center.
Fold the right tip of the triangle to the center of the triangle.
Fold the left tip of the triangle to the center of the triangle.
Select which side of the folded pocket square you want to show. For a cleaner look, we prefer to turn the pocket square around to show the folded edges versus the finished edges.
Now that you've folded a two point pocket square, simply slide it into your jacket pocket. Only the tips of the fold should be seen peeking out.
By the way, suit jackets vary. Your pocket may be narrow, shallow or deep, which changes how your pocket square sits. Adjust to your pocket by tucking the folded pocket square in a bit more or less.
Once you have the one point and two point folds under your belt, it’s time to introduce (drum roll...) the three point fold. Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think, especially with our illustrated steps.

There are a lot of ways to fold a pocket square, but this one is a classic. The one point pocket square fold is a simple, business appropriate fold. It can be worn with a suit and tie or casually with a blazer, sans tie and collared shirt. If you're only going to learn one pocket square fold, this is a versatile option that's easy to remember.
Learn how to fold it! Here are the 8 simple steps (with visuals). As a reference, we're using a 12- by 12-inch pocket square as an example.
Fold the pocket square in half again from the bottom tip to the top tip, creating a triangle.
Fold the right tip of the triangle to the center of the triangle.
Fold the left tip of the triangle to the center of the triangle.
Flip the pocket square over. You can choose whether to have the crisp folds facing forward as in this picture, or you can keep it a bit more casual by leaving the finished edges forward facing as in the previous picture. It's a matter of preference.
Now that you've folded the pocket square, simply slide it into your jacket pocket. Only the tip of the triangle should be seen peeking out.
Keep in mind that all suit jackets are not created equal. You may find your pocket to be narrower, shallower or deeper. You can adjust accordingly by tucking your pocket square in a bit more or less.
You can also adjust how far you fold over the left and right tips in steps 6 and 7, which will change the overall size of your pocket square point.
Once you've mastered folding the one point pocket square fold, it's time to try something more challenging! Take a look at our next post to learn how to fold a two point pocket square.

Sweets aren’t the only corporate gift that impresses during the holidays. This Texas law firm keeps things professional and gifts neckties, a tradition they’ve been at for more than 50 years!
For the past 57 holiday seasons, Phenix & Crump, PLLC has given neckties to attorneys, judges and doctors they interact with throughout the year.
And we’re not just talking about a couple of ties. This year, the firm is giving 100 individual neckties!
The tradition was started by founding partner James Phenix and is now continued by his son, JR “Rusty” Phenix.
Back in the day, the number of ties wasn’t quite 100, though the firm has maintained this gift count for the past 5 years. Interestingly enough, a retired court reporter from Henderson is the longest running recipient and has received a tie every year since 1966!
Although it would certainly be easier to give everyone the same tie, that’s not the style at Phenix & Crump. Instead, they personalize each gift and, for many recipients, pick out ties in collegiate color combos that match the law school they attended. For others, they focus on variety in the colors and patterns selected.
Here's where the holiday magic happens. 100 neckties are being sorted and packed in this office.
Seeking out a place to buy ties, Phenix & Crump found TieMart from an online search for “best reviewed neckties.” The firm ordered a sample of styles to see in person (and confirm those reviews) before making their final selections.
Once the ties arrive, the fun begins: Sorting, packing, mailing and/or hand delivering 100 ties. In all, the process takes about 2 weeks start to finish. According to the firm, one of the longest parts of the gifting process takes place at the post office mailing about half the ties!
Special thanks to Phenix & Crump for sharing their firm's holiday tradition with us!

Being an adult doesn’t mean his stocking should hang empty on Christmas. While trinkets and candy might not be his taste these days, there are still a lot of things that can be put in a man’s stocking—even on a budget. The key to a great adult Christmas stocking is practical, everyday items he’ll certainly use, but might not buy for himself. Let's keep it simple: Here’s a look at the 10 best stocking stuffer ideas for men.
Socks are by far the most common stocking stuffer for adults because, after all, who doesn’t wear socks? While replenishing his everyday socks is an option, get personal and stuff his stocking with socks he might not normally buy for himself. Novelty socks that match his interests or hobbies. Striped socks in his team colors. Or argyle socks that match his alma mater. Several pairs of socks will usually fit into a stocking.
Buy him lunch and add a $10 gift card to his favorite fast food restaurant to his stocking. If he’s more of a bring his own lunch kind of guy, switch it up for a coffee or gas station gift card in a similar amount.
Let's be honest, boys like toys no matter what age they are. Head to your local big box store and check out the ends of the toy aisles. You can usually find some small, less than $5 toys, like plastic building blocks. Check out the game section, too. Small (but fun) card games are often under $10.
For the man who wears ties regularly, a necktie is the perfect stocking stuffer. (You can’t have too many ties, afterall.) You want him to wear the tie, so keep his style in mind. This includes the pattern selected as well as the width of the tie. (Does he prefer slimmer or regular sized ties?) Take advantage of the colder, winter temps and pick out a tie that fits the season, like a thicker wool-blend necktie.
He might not have much of a sweet tooth anymore, but there are plenty of guy-approved snacks that will fill a stocking. Look for snacks that might not be a regular item in his house, like beef jerky or wasabi peas. Unique snacks can be found at more specialty grocery stores or even discount home goods stores.
Get him ready for grilling season with a new grill brush or cooking tools, many of which conveniently fit just right in a stocking (handles down). If he’s all set on grilling accessories, find a new spice or rub for him to try. There are certainly plenty of options out there.
Back in the day, his parents always threatened to get him underwear for Christmas. But as an adult, underwear is no longer a threat and he can always use a fresh new pair or two. Consider stuffing his stocking with necktie or bow tie boxer briefs. Fold and roll the briefs to make them smaller and fit a work week worth of undies in his stocking.
Here’s one thing we’ve learned over the years: There can never be too many condiments in a man’s fridge. Find him something new to try, like spicy honey, a bag of mayo, hotter than heck hot sauce or a unique mustard blend. These items are perfectly sized for his stocking, but make sure nothing needs to be kept refrigerated before opening.
We should all read more, so encourage him with a new book. It can be difficult to give an adult a book as a gift, but the best seller’s list is always a good place to start. Look for a book in his favorite genre. If the current best seller’s list isn’t cutting it, search for the top books of the past year and surely you’ll find something he hasn’t read. By the way, stockings are only so wide so choose a paperback when possible.
Heading out for NYE? Get him ready (or drop a hint) by adding a New Year’s worthy bow tie to his stocking. A black solid bow tie is a classic choice, or upgrade his look with a velvet bow tie or one with metallic details.
From socks to snacks, there are a lot of ways to fill a man's stocking at Christmas. Don't overthink it and add items that are practical, will be used and be appreciated. Luckily for those filling his adult stocking, this is easy to do on a budget.

Break out those Christmas ties, it's the holiday season. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year to leave your traditional ties at home and start donning something more festive. Oh what fun you'll have adding Santa, reindeer and candy cane striped ties to your business attire. So here it is: 12 days worth of Christmas ties that are sure to get you into the holiday spirit this December.
Go big or go home! On our first day of Christmas ties, we give you a Christmas lights necktie. Everyone will know you’re ready for the holidays when you walk in wearing this bright red tie. Unlike when you were up on a ladder decorating your house, we did all the work stringing oversized green lights back and forth across this tie.
On our second day of Christmas ties, we give you a classic: The red solid color necktie. Red is the color of the season and every man should have at least one great red tie in his December rotation. (Check out some more red tie options on our Red Christmas Ties post.) Now, if this look is a bit too plain for your holiday style, it's easy to make it more festive with a fun holiday tie bar or pair of Christmas themed socks.
On our third day of Christmas ties, we give you a candy cane necktie! Small candy canes are sprinkled onto this sweet tie. The black background means you can take it from the office to an after-work holiday event.
Now here's a tie worthy of Santa himself! On our fourth day of Christmas ties, we give you a red velvet slim tie. When we think velvet, the holiday season instantly comes to mind. Now, this tie features a trimmed down 2.5-inch width. The slimmer width makes it a trendier tie that is great for a festive night out or weekend-before-Christmas holiday party. (More of a bow tie guy? It's available in a pre-tied band collar bow tie, too.)
On our fifth day of Christmas ties, we give you a red and green plaid necktie. From wrapping paper to clothing, there’s something about plaid at Christmastime. The material is matte and the width is slightly trimmed down so this is a tie you can pair with khakis and dark denim for casual, but still festive, holiday style.
Halfway there! On our sixth day of Christmas ties, we give you an O Christmas tree necktie. We all have our own way of decking the halls, trimming the tree and dressing up for the holidays. While most Christmas themed ties feature bright red and green designs, this one is toned down in a dark green that might be more your style.
On our seventh day of Christmas ties, we give you a red and white striped tie. We already showed you a candy cane tie, but now you can look like a candy cane yourself in this fresh number. Just like a red solid tie, there are a lot of ways to make this tie even more festive, like adding a themed holiday tie bar.
On our eighth day of Christmas ties, we give you a Christmas pickup truck necktie. This tie will get you ready to head to the woods (or the local tree lot) to find this year's perfect Christmas tree. While we can't all haul our trees home in the quintessential red pickup truck, you can don this festive tie instead. (Bonus! Pair it with our red buffalo plaid socks for a farm-fresh Christmas look.)
On our ninth day of Christmas ties, we give you the Christmas tree tie. This festive red tie features an all-over Christmas tree pattern. Although the tie shines in red and green, the scale of the trees are small and (somewhat) subtle, so it's most definitely appropriate for your December business wear.
On our tenth day of Christmas ties, we give you a prancing reindeer necktie. We're close to the big day and those reindeer are certainly getting ready to take flight. With a larger sized design, this isn’t a subtle Christmas tie so consider wearing it on your most spirited days.
On our eleventh day of Christmas ties, we give you a Santa belt necktie. It's time for the big guy in red to suit up tonight and you can too in this fun Christmas tie. One of our favorite things about this tie is its versatility for any holiday event. Show off the full length and it looks like a fun Christmas print. Heading somewhere more conservative, like Midnight Mass? Simply button your suit jacket and it will appear like you’re wearing a solid red tie.
On our twelfth day of Christmas ties, we give you a red and green striped tie. It doesn't get more spirited than these two colors, so why not wear both on your tie this holiday season. For a more festive look, add those tie bars, socks or perhaps a Christmas cardigan on top.
The holidays are here and it's time to deck yourself out in red, green and Christmas trees. A tie is a quick and easy way to add cheer to an outfit, whether you’re heading to work or a holiday festivity. But you don’t have to stop with just your tie. Holiday tie bars, Christmas socks and themed sweaters can be paired with a Christmas tie, too. Happy Holidays!
TieMart is an online retailer of men's ties and accessories. Their wide collection includes neckwear for any occasion, including holidays like Christmas. TieMart's Christmas ties come in classic novelty prints and business appropriate, yet festive, red ties. Don't forget to finish your look with a pair of holiday socks.

Things are getting festive. With the holidays just around the corner, candy canes, reindeer and nutcrackers are making a comeback. In fact, your coworkers might be getting ready to break out their novelty Christmas ties.
But donning a prancing reindeer necktie isn't for everyone, and that doesn't make you a Scrooge. A red tie can look just as festive come December. Here are 10 red Christmas ties that will give your look some holiday spirit—without a Santa in sight.
We're starting with a classic. A solid red tie is the simplest way to look festive, minus a themed print. It's the most worn tie of the holiday season, especially when you factor in group wear like choirs. You can take it anywhere, from the office to a holiday luncheon, too. If a bright red tie is too bold for your style, select a darker red, like crimson, as a substitute.
Red velvet is worthy of Santa's suit, so it's certainly an option for a holiday tie this season. This tie can be worn dressy with your own suit or more casually with a pair of dark jeans and a tartan shirt. But don't pack this tie away after Christmas. Even though velvet is traditionally associated with the holidays, in the last couple years we've seen this plush material worn in warmer seasons, too.
In April or May, this is certainly a power tie. But during the month of December, this red striped tie is totally festive. We have a couple more red striped ties to show you coming up, but this one is the easiest to work into an outfit thanks to its tone-on-tone style. While you can wear it for sleek business attire, it's our top pick for festive formal wear.
This tie is as close to a novelty tie as we're going to suggest. The red and white stripes certainly give off a candy cane vibe during the holiday season. However, that won't be on anyone's mind when you walk back into the office in April with this exact tie on.
At first glance, this isn't a Christmas tie. But the stripes on it remind us of the spools of ribbon used on a perfectly wrapped gift under a Christmas tree. Just like ribbon, the red stripes alternate between ribbing, textures and satin. Bring it to the office or Christmas dinner this December.
This is another red tie that doesn't necessarily look like a Christmas tie. Paisley is a classic men's tie pattern that is worn year round. But in this all-red design, the tie can certainly be an alternative to a themed Christmas print. It will look great peeking out from a green sweater or with your favorite suit.
For a step beyond the red solid tie, consider this red herringbone number for the holidays. It's probably obvious by now that an all-red tie can add a festive touch to a December wardrobe. This herringbone tie keeps things simple with a small herringbone weave, but its added texture makes it a great choice for a dressier Christmas festivity.
Here's another tie to dress up your holiday look. The paisley pattern on this red tie is woven from a silver metallic material. With a trendy 2.5-inch width, this is a festive tie to wear to your company's holiday party. But don't pack it away on December 26th. The sparkly details are just right for New Year's Eve, too.
Some of you might disagree with us on this one, and that's okay! But there's something about the combination of red and a light icy blue that has us thinking about Christmas and the winter season, too. We imagine the North Pole looks a lot like this tie.
These next few options upgrade the classic red solid tie. These are completely red ties, but in higher-end material. The red premium tie is made from durable polyester, but this time in a thicker, woven fabric. The red silk tie is made from light and flowy silk, just like you'd imagine the fabric to be. The red cotton/silk tie is a more muted red in a thick yet soft fabric. (The material feels like flannel to us, which is certainly popular in the wintertime.)
It doesn't take a Santa tie to get into the holiday spirit. From solid colors to patterns, a red tie can look equally as festive as a novelty tie during the holiday season. Plus (bonus!) unlike your coworker's new Christmas tree tie, you'll be able to keep wearing your red tie long after the holidays are over.
TieMart is an online retailer of men's ties and accessories. Their wide collection includes neckwear for any occasion, including holidays like Christmas. Besides your classic novelty Christmas ties, at TieMart you'll find a wide selection of business appropriate, yet festive, red ties for the holiday season and beyond.

A band name like Ostrich Hat is hard to forget. When the band members wear ties covered in hat-wearing ostriches, you know they’re going to make a lasting impression.
Ostrich Hat started as a three-piece acoustic band, playing their first gig way back in 2011 at a restaurant bar in Hazleton, PA. Times have changed and today the multi-genre band has grown to five members.
In their decade-plus career, venues have expanded, too. They’ve played across the country, from gigs at casinos in Atlantic City, NJ and Las Vegas, NV to spring break events in Panama City, FL as well as countless weddings and private parties. Every now and then, Ostrich Hat has even opened for larger arena acts.
The band’s catchy name is often a topic of conversation. Surely there’s some deep meaning behind it. Guess again. According to bassist Jeff Tomassacci, the name was the brainchild of the drummer’s sister.
While browsing through a magazine she saw a picture of an ostrich on one page and a man wearing a fedora on the next. Knowing that the band was looking for a fun name, she suggested Ostrich Hat. Her brother told her “that is the dumbest name ever” but it stuck.
This quirky ostrich is the band's mascot and logo.
Not only is their name catchy, but their fun party music is, too. Collectively, band members have experience in a huge range of genres—rock, punk, country, bluegrass, metal, pop and the list goes on—which allows Ostrich Hat to tailor their show to the venue and get the audience to the dance floor. According to the band, there is no better feeling than a happy audience.
Wardrobe is an important part of any performance, and Ostrich Hat has that down with custom logo ties featuring the band’s mascot—an ostrich wearing a top hat, of course.
Drummer Jeff Bonomo can be credited with the band’s look. Several years back, he surprised his bandmates with custom Ostrich Hat ties as a Christmas gift and it became a standard part of their concert attire.
The band recently needed to upgrade their custom ties for something more on-trend for weddings, i.e. a skinnier width. According to the band, after several days of searching custom tie companies online, TieMart stood out above the rest.
“[TieMart’s] work looked wonderful from all the pictures online, but the customer service and the care they put into crafting each of their responses was unmatched,“ said Jeff T.
Ostrich Hat’s original custom ties were regular-sized black ties with their logo repeated in an all-over pattern. The band worked with TieMart to come up with a more modern style. After several free design revisions, Ostrich Hat’s design was complete: Black slim ties with a diagonally striped logo.
A mockup of Ostrich Hat's new custom tie design.
With an upcoming gig only a few days away, TieMart was able to quickly create the band’s custom ties via dye sublimation at their Midwest location.
The company starts with a pre-manufactured tie. The design is printed onto special transfer paper and then dyed onto the front and back of the ties via a heat press. The process is permanent, doesn’t fade, peel or crack and allows orders to be turned around quickly without any order minimums.
Ostrich Hat’s new custom ties arrived before that next gig.
“We can’t say enough for TieMart," said Jeff T. “But we can say we will be life long customers and will be ordering more than ties in the near future.”
Get your toes tapping and check out Ostrich Hat (and their new ties) at an upcoming show or for your next wedding or event.

TieMart can create custom logo ties, even if you only need a few! Custom ties are created in their Mundelein, IL warehouse. The process is affordable ($29.95 each) and orders can be turned around quickly. To get started, send your artwork on their custom logo tie page. The company puts the design together and sends you a free digital sample to approve.

Those last bells of the school year are ringing and before you know it, school’s out for summer! While taking time to unwind, get a head start on next year’s uniforms, including school ties.
Solid colors, stripes, plaids or something else entirely. Let’s take a look at the patterns of ties available for K-12 students, and how to decide which is best for your school.
Solid colors are, by far, the easiest choice for any uniform attire. Burgundy, navy blue, red, dark purple, kelly green, royal blue. School colors are typically pretty basic, so it’s fairly easy to find solid ties to match. In which case, the most difficult part of shopping for solid color school uniform ties may very well be selecting the style or styles of ties the students will wear. (Take a look at this informative article on types of school uniform ties for pointers.)
There are two different solid ties seen in schools: Matte finish ties and non-matte finish ties. Matte ties have no shine to the fabric. They’re more traditional in uniform settings, but color choices are usually very limited. Non-matte finish ties come in a wider range of colors and styles. Some of these ties have slight sheens, while others have shiny finishes.
This dark burgundy uniform tie has a non-shiny matte finish.
The downfall of selecting solid color ties is that many schools have more than one hue in their school colors. Maroon and gold, red and navy blue, orange and black, etc. To incorporate both colors into the school’s uniform ties, consider differentiating the student body by color. Some schools assign one color to upperclassmen (or seniors) and another to lowerclassmen.
Others select one color for regular neckties and another color for specialty tie styles that may be available, like crossover ties for female students. Or, perhaps a simpler option is to offer all ties styles in both school colors and allow the students to wear either.
When envisioning a school uniform, a striped tie often comes to mind. That’s because it’s the most popular style of school uniform tie. Unlike solid ties, it’s easy to incorporate multiple school colors into a striped tie for a more customized feel.
However, there isn’t just one type of school striped ties. Striped ties come in a range of styles, from equally sized wider stripes to thinner stripes and pencil stripes for a more collegiate look. Selecting which style of striped tie to use usually comes down to preference or which are available in your school’s colors.
School striped ties are the most popular style of uniform ties and come in a variety of stripe styles, from wide stripes to pencil stripes like above.
Remember how some schools differentiate upper and lower classmen by tie colors? That can be done with striped ties, too. Students at Chicago’s Urban Prep Academies wear solid red ties as part of their school uniform, until they are accepted into college. Then, they get to trade in their solid ties for a red and gold striped tie, which shows off both of the school’s colors and the student’s achievement.
Plaid is another classic choice for school uniforms, especially among private and/or religious schools. However, public schools are gravitating towards plaids as well. A benefit of plaid is the ability to showcase many colors in one pattern, so if a school has more than two school colors this is a great solution.
Plaid ties are popular among private and religious schools, but being worn more frequently by public schools.
On the contrary, the downfall of plaid school ties is that it may have too many colors in the pattern for a particular school. (Especially if the school only has two colors.) Thus, the tie could have a color in it that has nothing to do with that school’s colors, like a thin yellow line in a navy blue and hunter green plaid.
When the school uniform ties available just aren’t right, or adding a school mascot or emblem is necessary, custom school ties are a great option. A school can be as creative as it wants when creating a school uniform tie, and it’s possible to match the school’s colors (nearly) perfectly. In large quantities, details such as the tie label can even be branded with the school’s name.
Since the options are endless, it’s important to have something in mind before designing a school uniform tie. Narrow down the choices between solid ties, striped ties or plaid ties. Take a look at what other schools are wearing nearby and across the country. (Having the same design as the cross-town rival might not be a good idea.) Look at school uniform ties worn in tv shows and movies. Ask students and faculty what they would like to see.
There are many choices when it comes to school uniform tie patterns, and there’s no right or wrong tie for any particular school. Often, the school uniform tie selected comes down to preference, tradition, or what’s available in the school’s colors and styles desired.
TieMart carries a wide variety of school uniform ties to suit students of all ages and sizes, including standard ties, pre-tied ties, crossover ties and more. Ah summer, that glorious time when bright colors are in style, weddings are bountiful and attire is a little more relaxed. Let’s take a look at george plaid ties, an exclusive-to-us pattern that’s ideal for your warm-weather style.
The great thing about george is that it comes in six different color combinations: Perfect pink, cream, dark green, light brown, dark silver and terracotta. Aside from the pool, this gingham-like pattern can go just about anywhere this summer.
Whether you’re standing at the altar or simply a guest, this plaid is a handsome choice for wedding day attire. From the perfect pink to the cream with hints of lavender, these popular pastel tones are easy to match to bridesmaid dresses and wedding colors.
For summertime office attire, you can’t go wrong with george. It’s easy to mix in with shirts and slacks, or your favorite suit. You’ll have no trouble color pairing with the array of shades available. (The dark green and light brown plaid are classic hues for the office.)
Get dolled up and take your significant other out on a much-needed summer date night in the dark silver plaid. The pops of yellow are perfect for this sunny season. Trust us when we say it will turn heads—without being too bold—when paired with a navy suit or slacks combo.
In the last days of summer, add the terracotta plaid to your attire. The colors have a pumpkin spice feel that will easily transition your look to, dare we say it, fall. (You’ll know it’s time to wear this tie when you see pumpkin hit the coffeehouse menus.)
Besides the classic necktie, every color variation comes in a range of tie styles. Need a longer length or skinnier width? George plaid is stocked in extra long lengths and trendier slim width ties. If bow ties are more your speed, this pattern has pre-tied band collar bow ties, self-tie bow ties and diamond tips bows. There are even pre-tied neckties and floppy bow ties for those looking to upgrade a group uniform.
Don’t worry, we didn’t forget the youngest tie fans either. George comes in children’s sizes, too. Whatever style of tie you wear, complete your outfit with the matching pocket squares.
Now that you know what you’re wearing this summer (the george plaid—of course), get out there and enjoy the season. RSVP to that wedding and plan a date night or two. We’ll be talking about fall ties before we know it, afterall.

These days, you can find literally anything on a tie: Flamingos, cheeseburgers and even your own face if you make a custom tie. But there are a few tie patterns that are more traditional when you’re shopping for neckwear. Let’s take a look at those seven main men’s tie patterns (and then we’ll get back to the fun and wild tie designs).
If you’re looking for a tried-and-true timeless pattern look no further than paisley, the elegantly swirled repeating pattern that’s so often associated with formal occasions. Chances are you already have a paisley tie in your neckwear collection—and if you don’t, your dad or grandpa definitely do! Paisley has long been the standard for patterned tie wear.
There are many styles of paisley ties, from large bold patterns (like above) to small, tone-on-tone prints.
The rich history of this pattern began thousands of years ago in Kashmir, with cloth producers taking inspiration from China, India and the Middle East. Once reserved only for royalty, paisley was woven into silk shawls worn by men for hundreds of years.
What began as a simple geometric design has evolved into the intricate and varied paisleys we see on ties today. This pattern has shown its ability to stand the test of time and has become a go-to choice for business and formal wear.
Striped ties are a popular choice for those who want to represent their school or favorite team’s colors, as well as those looking to add a tie to their business casual attire. From pencil stripes to fashion stripes to regimental stripes to widely spaced stripes, there’s a whole world of striped ties out there.
From schools to the office. Striped ties are professional and come in a wide range of color combos and stripe sizes.
Repp stripes are the grandfather of the striped ties we know today. Originally created for servicemen in the British military, the color, width and direction of the stripes represented their regiment and was a way to show their loyalty when out of uniform. Soon, this style made its way across the pond to the United States where the stripe pattern was kept. However, in the U.S. the direction of the diagonal stripes were reversed to avoid directly copying the British.
Today, you can choose from thousands of striped ties in every color under the sun. Striped ties are still a way to show loyalty, or just your favorite colors!
Wanting to add a little fun to your attire? Dotted ties (or polka dot ties) are the way to go! Many think of large, clown-like polka dots when envisioning this pattern, but there’s a whole spectrum of dot sizes when it comes to ties.
Keep it subtle with pinpoint dots against a solid background for work attire, or larger dots for more casual occasions. The rule of thumb is: The smaller the dot and the farther apart they are, the more formal.
Polka dots aren't just for swimwear and clowns! Many dotted ties are business and formal wear appropriate.
Rich with tradition, plaid is one of the most diverse patterns available, mixing many colors together in one motif. Plaid ties come in a range of print sizes, from the smaller glen plaid to larger tartan.
Plaid ties are a great go-choice choice for the office, but there is a rich history behind this pattern, too.
The pattern as we know it came out of Scotland in the 1700s. Different regions of the country produced different colors of plaid based on the plant dyes and materials that were available. Eventually, these varied plaids came to represent clans and families. Another design based on loyalty!
Take your pick from the many prints and color combinations of plaid ties available, whether they represent your “clan” or just go really well with your favorite shirts and suits.
Floral ties are currently trending, especially for weddings. This pattern encompasses a wide variety of prints, from large to small, flashy to subtle.
Floral ties are more popular than ever these days and include small, subtle designs like above as well as bolder, more colorful patterns.
When you think of spring and summer events, floral ties are definitely in fashion. Small print florals in muted tones are a favorite for weddings, as well as dressy upscale events where you may want to match to a date’s dress. For bold, fun-in-the-sun wear, large and bright florals are the perfect choice (think the style of Hawaiian shirts with hibiscus flowers).
Whichever you choose, florals are a great way to incorporate a few different colors into one outfit. Find one main color in the pattern to match to a suit, pocket square or casual wear and let the rest of the pattern be complementary colors.
From spirals to squares and squiggles, geometric ties house a wide variety of patterns that aren’t quite standard. Keep it subtle with repeating checks, or dazzle with intricate medallions.
These unique patterns often take their inspiration from math and nature: Spirals, waves, tessellations and geometric shapes. Small scale geometric patterned ties (squares, checks, tumbling blocks) are a common choice for formal business attire and occasions. Larger geometric prints (large medallions, zig zags, waves) are most frequently worn for casual settings, which may include a more relaxed business environment.
Swirls, checks, links and more! There are a lot of ties that fall into the geometric pattern category.
You could definitely argue that this one isn’t really a pattern, but we can’t talk about men’s pattern ties without touching on the solid colored tie. Today, most men have at least one solid color necktie or bow tie in their wardrobe—even if it’s the tie they wore for prom. But solid ties in every color under the rainbow weren’t always so common.
Back when every businessman wore a tie to work (i.e. before the mid 1990s or so), the average guy might have had a handful of neutral solid ties in his wardrobe: Blacks, grays, navys. But that was usually the extent of his color range.
Enter Regis Philbin and the gameshow “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” While hosting the popular television show, he always wore a bold and shiny solid tie. Suddenly bright, solid color ties were a must-have in the business world and department stores, not just formal wear shops, started stocking these bold solid ties, too.
While not necessarily a pattern, most men have a solid color tie or two in their closet these days.
Today, solid ties are still commonplace in the office, for casual settings and formal events. However, the finish of the tie has evolved since Regis first wore this style. Solid ties can be found in matter finishes than Regist wore, like cotton ties, linen ties, knit ties and more.
When a traditional tie just won’t do, take the plunge into novelty ties! From your furry friend’s face to electric guitars, there’s a whole world of funny and heartwarming specialty ties that will highlight your hobby or those you hold dear.
These are fun ties that you wouldn’t normally wear on an everyday basis, but definitely make their appearance on special days such as birthdays, holidays and the like. Consider giving a novelty tie as a gift to that special teacher, for Father’s Day or to that coworker who has a passion for tacos.
Not every pattern tie is serious! Novelty ties, like this fun t-rex pattern, are great for gifts or showing off your personality at work.
Have your own idea for a tie? From artwork to a selfie, you can put (almost anything) on a tie when you design a custom tie.
With so many patterns to choose from, picking a tie can be daunting. Start by narrowing down your choices to a pattern that suits you, then look for colors that accent or coordinate with your current wardrobe.
If you’re still not sure on colors, stick to today’s “neutrals” (navy, burgundy, dark green) as well as classics like black, gray, brown and off-white/tan. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone once in a while and wear a tie that’s bolder or brighter than your regular go-to. The number of compliments you receive might just surprise you.

This designer wanted to surprise her #1 fan (her dad!) with custom ties made from her own designs. Let's take a look at her memorable Father’s Day gift.
A few years ago, Halee learned surface pattern design and loved it. She posts her completed designs online and her dad would often comment “I gotta have this on a tie!”
Determined to make that happen, Halee’s dad started searching online for a place to make custom ties. Most custom tie companies require large minimum orders, which was not what this family was looking for.
Luckily, Halee’s dad landed on TieMart, an online tie company that can create custom ties (with no minimum order) at their Midwest location using a permanent process called dye sublimation. Using special transfer paper, designs are printed and heat pressed onto pre-manufactured neckties. Because the process is done manually on each tie, TieMart can create single orders of custom ties (or more, if needed).
Here’s where the story gets fun. Halee’s dad contacted TieMart to design a custom tie, but needed his daughter to email the designs in high-resolution files. With Father’s Day coming up, Halee surprised her dad and ambushed the order by paying for it herself and adding a second design that she knew he loved.
“I think he thought he'd be buying the tie, but I couldn't let my number one fan do that now, could I,” Halee said.
Take a look at Halee's completed designs. They are vibrant, fun and such a unique Father's Day gift!
TieMart helped Halee (and her dad) turn her original designs into custom neckties.
TieMart can create custom ties from original artwork and photos, even if you only need one! Custom ties are created in their Mundelein, IL warehouse. The process is affordable ($29.95 each) and orders can be turned around quickly. To get started, send your artwork on their custom tie page. The company puts the design together and sends you a free digital sample to approve.

Ties are a great way to top off a school uniform. But there are many styles of school uniform ties and one style does not suit every student. Often, the type of tie worn depends on the age and gender of the student. Before buying uniform ties for your student body, take a look at the options available so that even the youngest students will be able to put their ties on unassisted.
Let’s start with a classic: The standard necktie. Standard ties are the most popular school uniform option, particularly among high school students. This option requires the student to tie the tie by hand, a process that may be difficult for younger students and tedious for parents to help with each day. However, by late middle school to high school the students are definitely capable of tying a tie each morning.
Standard ties come in a variety of lengths and widths to accommodate pre-teens to young adults. Keep in mind that the tip of a tie should fall to about the belt line. For most pre-teens under 13-years old, a children’s 48-inch long necktie is going to fit the best. Older students (14+) will most likely wear an adult-size tie measuring 57-inches long. While a traditional-width men’s tie measures 3.5-inches wide, this might look too big on a smaller-framed student. However, ties come in narrower widths to create a more proportional look for those students who are in between sizes.
The standard necktie is a classic in school uniforms, but must be tied everyday.
Pre-tied ties are the most popular style of school uniform ties for elementary students as they provide ease of wear, which aids in compliance. Choose from zipper ties, clip-on ties, breakaway ties or pre-tied bow ties. These styles feature pre-tied knots that the wearer can simply slip around their neck and zip or clip closed. Each style has their own benefit, and it’s really up to the discretion of the individual school as to which style is worn.
Zipper ties are kid friendly and stay in place throughout the school day. This pre-tied option secures via a loop that goes around the neck. A zipper (hence the name) is hidden in the tie tail and unzips to allow the loop to expand over the student’s head. (Just give that loop a small tug to unzip it.) To tighten the loop, pull down on the tie tail and zip it back up to size. There is a slight learning curve to using the zipper, but this option is still easier than tying a traditional tie and provides the same aesthetic when worn.
Since the knot is already existing, the lengths of pre-tied ties are shorter than regular ties and measured from the top of that knot to the tip of the tie. An 11-inch zipper tie will reach the belt line of most preschool students ages 2 to 5 years. A 14-inch tie is typically sized for elementary students 6- to 10-years old. The next length of tie is usually 16- to 17-inches long and is appropriate for pre-teens and some teens, including many female high school students. A regular adult-size zipper tie measures 20-inches long, which is what most high schools choose for their student body. Longer, 22-inch+ lengths may be available too, but this is rare for high school students to wear. While most children’s zipper ties are the same traditional width, zipper ties for teens and adults may come in different widths. However, most pre-tied ties meant for uniform wear already have a slightly narrowed size.
Zipper ties are the most secure option of pre-tied school uniform ties.
Tried and true, clip-on ties are perhaps the most user-friendly style of uniform neckwear out there. Students of all ages can attach the tie to their collar simply by lifting the clip lever away from the knot, placing the clip behind their shirt’s top button and pushing down on the knot to secure the tie in place. While it’s also a safe choice with no material around the neck, the downfall of the clip-on tie is that it is so easy to take off and put on, take off and put on, take off and put on. Some students may repeatedly fidget with the knot during class.
Just like zipper ties, clip-on ties come in a very wide variety of sizes to accommodate an entire student body, from pre-k to high school. For preschool aged children 2- to 5-years old, 11-inch clip-on ties are usually appropriate. Elementary aged children in the 6- to 10-year old group typically wear a 14-inch long clip-on tie. Pre-teens and older students fit into a range of lengths measuring from 17-, 20- and 22-inches long. (Just like zipper ties, 20-inch long clip-on ties are the regular adult size and likely what high school students will wear.) Like other styles of ties, different widths are often available as you move into those longer length adult ties.
Clip-on ties are simple to add and remove, so even elementary age students can put their ties on themselves.
The breakaway tie is a great option for school uniforms because it combines the best features of a zipper tie and a clip-on tie. First, like a zipper tie it features a band that goes around the student’s neck, which helps to keep it secure around the collar. However, it has the added safety benefit of a clip-on tie in that the tie can quickly be removed from around the neck simply by tugging on it. (Hence the name “breakaway”.)
Breakaway ties are easy to put on. The collar is adjustable to the student’s size and clasps shut. As tempting as it may be, for longevity the student shouldn’t forcefully tug the tie off each day.
Breakaway ties come in many of the same lengths as other pre-tied ties. Look for a 14-inch length for elementary aged students (up to about 10-years old), 16- or 17-inch lengths for pre-teens and 20-inch lengths for high school students and older.
The breakaway tie has a loop that goes around the neck, just like a zipper tie. However, it can quickly be removed by tugging slightly on the tie.
Pre-tied bow ties are not as common of a choice when choosing school uniform attire, but they certainly have their place. Adjustable band collar pre-tied bow ties are a great option for special school events where more formal group attire is required, like band and choir concerts and graduation. Without any material hanging, they may also stay cleaner than a necktie and potentially last longer in school environments. To attach the bow tie, the student must first adjust the band collar to their neck size, then wrap the band around their shirt collar and secure it closed.
Sizing is pretty simple with pre-tied bow ties as there are usually only two sizes available: Boys' or children's and men's or adults'. Most children's bow ties fit students up to about 10-years old. Students over 10-years old usually wear the adult size.
Bow ties are worn less often than neckties in school uniforms and are sometimes reserved for special occasions. However, with no material hanging they may stay clean longer than a necktie.
Standard neckties, zipper ties, clip-on ties and bow ties are perfectly good options for unisex wear, but there are a few tie styles to set female students’ attire part, including crossover ties and floppy bow ties.
Crossover ties are the most traditional choice for female student uniforms. They are easy to use by students of any age as no tying is required. Simply adjust the band to the appropriate neck size, cross one end over the other and snap closed.
Sometimes the color or pattern of the crossover ties will match the male students’ ties, sometimes not. Crossover ties are more common in solid colors and school plaids than stripes. However, a solid color crossover tie can usually be found to match one of the colors in a striped tie.
Crossover ties are the traditional choice for a female school uniform tie that's different than the male students.
A floppy bow tie is essentially a butterfly style bow tie that the ends flop down. In the United States, the floppy bow tie is a less traditional school uniform choice, but certainly appropriate for female students. It provides a similar look to the crossover tie, but adds a little flair. These pre-tied floppy bows feature an adjustable collar just like a band collar bow tie. The student has to simply adjust the band to their neck size, wrap it around their collar, then secure the clasp to close.
Just like the crossover tie, floppy bow ties are more common in solid colors and school plaids. However, a solid color floppy bow tie will certainly match a striped school tie, too.
The floppy bow tie is easy to put on and another choice for female-specific school uniforms.
School uniform ties come in many different styles, from regular neckties to easy-to-use pre-tied ties and options meant for the female students. While some schools select one style of tie for all, others mix and match among the student body. Once your school decides which tie best suits its students, it’s time to consider the tie pattern: Solid, striped, plaid or perhaps a custom option.
TieMart carries a wide variety of school uniform ties to suit students of all ages and sizes, including standard ties, pre-tied ties, crossover ties and more. Match your school colors with TieMart’s vast collection of solid colors, stripes and school plaids. These uniform ties are durable and easy to clean, which is an important factor when choosing neckwear for children. Large quantities are kept in stock at TieMart’s Midwest location and additional discounts are available on bulk orders.

Putting together a casual restaurant uniform is difficult. There are so many options to choose from and no standards, which leaves a lot of room for questions. For example, are collared shirts necessary? Should servers wear ties? Are black and white uniforms considered casual?
Casual dining server uniforms vary from relaxed to dressy and somewhere in between. However, the uniform should match the ambiance and branding of the restaurant. (What vibe do you want to portray to your customers?) So let’s dig in and take a look at designing just the right restaurant uniform for your business.
Out of all restaurant uniforms, letting servers wear their own clothing is, without a doubt, the most relaxed option and is more of a dress code than a uniform. However, management may still add a simple set of guidelines. Without guidelines, it’s likely every member of the waitstaff will be wearing something different. Adding some guidelines, like the color and style of the shirt, pants or tie (if wearing), will help make the staff more recognizable to the patrons and more closely match the restaurant's vibe. However, even with guidelines, waiters and waitresses have the freedom to wear the clothing styles they feel comfortable in during a long and busy shift.
Safety is important, especially in a food environment where there are frequent spills. Even without a set uniform, don’t overlook setting guidelines for footwear and other safety concerns. Consider making non-slip soles (like sneakers) mandatory.
Speaking of spills, aprons are a nice touch when servers are wearing their own clothing. It’s only a matter of time before a shirt or pair of pants will be stained, so providing aprons adds a layer of protection. (More on which styles of aprons are casual-eatery acceptable below.)
As ties were worn less frequently in casual restaurant uniforms, polo shirts began to replace the basic white button down. Polo shirts offer a professional but more relaxed look that is perfect in a casual restaurant. Plus, they are affordable, gender neutral and come in a wide range of colors, making them easy to match that branding. (Consider adding a restaurant logo to the chest of the shirt for additional brand awareness.) Polo shirts are durable too, which we all know is important around food and drinks. While they won’t last forever, waitstaff can get a lot of life out of a polo shirt with some pre-treatment and regular machine washing.
There’s more to the uniform than the polo, so let’s talk about pants. Polo shirts can be worn with khakis, denim and shorts, depending on the restaurant’s ambiance. Don’t forget to tuck in those polo shirts for a more put-together look.
Business casual means a lot of things these days. In the restaurant industry, it’s somewhere between the polo and classic black and white attire (a look coming up next). Usually this means a black or white button-down shirt and slacks or dark denim. (Slack colors can vary from khaki to black, khaki being on the more casual spectrum.)
The fun part of this somewhat open-ended style is all the extras. A tie is a great way to show off brand colors, logos, or make that otherwise forgettable uniform memorable. Consider a solid tie that matches the restaurant’s colors. Or make custom restaurant ties using a logo. Selecting a variety of bright solid color ties and mixing and matching among waitstaff is fun and memorable. A similar look can be created with two-color striped ties in unexpected colors.
Neckties can still be part of a casual restaurant uniform, with a little more freedom than a black bow tie. A slew of assorted brightly colored ties would certainly grab the customer's attention and make a lasting impression.
The black and white uniform is a classic: White button-down shirt, black pants, black shoes and perhaps a black necktie or bow tie. Most fine dining restaurants wear black and white uniforms, but a more casual restaurant can, too. The difference is that upscale restaurants will have stricter guidelines to follow, even to the point of grooming standards. Casual restaurants may keep things simpler by having looser guidelines, like a white button-down and black dress pants to one’s liking, but nothing too specific.
Black ties can still be added to casual dining uniforms, without looking too formal. (Management usually purchases the ties in bulk so that they are the same among servers.) A black bow tie is the more formal option, so neckties are typically the preferred choice in casual dining. Black neckties come in different widths, and as a rule of thumb the skinnier the tie the trendier it is. (Take a look at our article on trendy restaurant uniforms if you’re considering skinnier ties for your casual restaurant.)
Black neckties can still be added to a casual restaurant uniform. Neckties are usually worn over bow ties.
Although not all restaurants use them, aprons are a really helpful part of a uniform. Not only do they protect the server’s clothing from spills and stains, but pockets! Apron pockets are great for storing pens, straws and receipts.
There are a ton of apron styles, and casual restaurants have the luxury of really being able to wear any of them. However, a full bistro style apron (long length, no bib) is usually reserved for fine dining restaurants. Longer length bib aprons are casual, but also popular among trendy restaurants, so keep that in mind.
Just like polo shirts, aprons come in a variety of colors, so you can stick to a neutral or show off those brand colors. Bib aprons lend themselves to embroidery, so consider adding that restaurant logo front and center if one is not already part of the servers' uniforms.
There are so many uniform options for casual dining servers and, admittedly, it can be overwhelming. Collared shirts, ties, denim, server's pick. It's all on the table. However, at the end of the day, the choice depends on the vibe you want the restaurant to set: Fun and memorable, classic or understated.
TieMart sells affordable, quality ties to many industries, including restaurants. They keep large quantities in stock at all times and can create custom logo ties. Styles of their most popular ties, including staff ties, are never discontinued. This allow restaurants to confidently order the same tie year after year, without having to worry about changing waitstaff uniforms.
We are a family-run tie company based in Illinois. We've been in the biz since the late 90s, so by now we know a thing or two about men's fashion and accessories. Tiepedia is our lil spot on the web to share that knowledge with you.
It’s more than the menu that attracts a crowd. At a fine dining restaurant, clientele expect perfection. The food, the drinks, the lighting, acoustics, seating and even the servers’ uniforms. We’ll let you handle the menu, but let’s take a look at waitstaff uniform options in upscale establishments.
In most fine dining restaurants, servers will wear black and white uniforms. These are traditional waitstaff colors. The colors blend in and do not take away from the overall ambience of the restaurant. However, black and white is also easy for guests to identify staff members at the restaurant, should they need assistance from someone other than their server.
There are some exceptions to the rules, of course. Some trendier, high-end restaurants incorporate their brand color into their ties. Sometimes this is a solid color, like purple server bow ties, or a custom restaurant necktie that includes their logo. The key is to keep the server uniforms classy, upscale and easily identifiable.
It’s easy to picture a black and white server uniform, but there are some standards to consider in fine dining establishments. Here’s a closer look at the uniform, piece by piece.
The crisp white button-down dress shirt is a staple of high-end restaurant uniforms. Unfortunately, restaurants are a dangerous place for the color white and these shirts can be easily slopped and stained. Thus, it’s important for servers to have a rotation of clean shirts, and perhaps even a backup on hand while working.
Sometimes though, black dress shirts are worn in upscale restaurants. Though less traditional, black hides those stains more easily and may have a longer life than white.
Whichever color is worn, the shirt should be fitted, pressed and tucked in at all times.
A black dress hides stains better than white.
In upscale restaurants, it’s important that the pants worn are, in fact, dress pants. Not jeans, not leggings, but dressier slacks and perhaps even tuxedo bottoms. If choosing tuxedo bottoms, everyone should wear the same pants. If letting the waitstaff select their own pants, certain guidelines should be provided, like the cut, to ensure consistency among the server uniforms.
Sometimes waitresses wear black skirts instead of pants. Waitress skirts are usually knee length to allow movement. Like tuxedo pants, it’s important that the skirts are identical for that consistent, easily identifiable look.
On top of those crisp shirts and tailored pants, we sometimes see vests and aprons worn by waitstaff in fine dining restaurants. The vest is the more common of these two items. These vests are typically black and a classic formalwear style: Buttons down the front, sheen-finish material in the front, satin finish in the back.
Vests look formal, but also protect the server's shirt and necktie from inevitable stains.
The aprons worn in this environment are usually black or a dark gray and a full bistro style—meaning no bib up the chest and a longer length. The full bistro apron is a dressier look than waist or bib aprons. (Bib aprons are really popular right now for trendy restaurants.)
Besides that recognizable waitstaff look, both vests and aprons offer a protective layer over the other clothing pieces worn. Vests, especially, are a great way to keep those white shirts looking crisp and lasting longer.
Server ties are optional at more casual restaurants, but they are an absolute must at fine dining establishments. Traditionally, the black bow tie would be worn in upscale restaurants. (This is the same tie worn for black tie attire.) Pre-tied bow ties ensure a consistent look among staff. The band collar bow tie is a top pick since it’s easy to use and stays securely in place throughout a shift.
Pre-tied and easy to use, the band collar bow tie is the most popular tie for fine dining staff.
As dress codes become less formal everywhere, black neckties are an acceptable choice for high-end restaurant servers, too. However, it’s important that the ties are a traditional width (wider than 3 inches). Like the rest of the outfit, the tie should be stain-free and presentable at all times. (Take a look at our post on how to make restaurant ties last longer.) While most restaurants select a standard tie that must be tied by the wearer, zipper ties are an option, too. These are pre-tied ties with a loop that goes around the neck. Just like a band collar bow tie, zipper ties stay securely in place and provide a consistent look among servers.
Sometimes other tie colors are incorporated into upscale server uniforms. When servers are wearing black dress shirts, they may change out the black tie for a dark gray equivalent. As mentioned above, the tie is an easy place to show off a restaurant’s logo color and add to the overall ambiance. Consistency and stain free is key here.
Don’t overlook the last step of a high-end server uniform: Footwear. Like any restaurant, servers are on their feet a lot so comfort and a non-slip sole is key. In upscale restaurants, waitstaff should wear dressier styles of shoes in black leather or a similar material that can be wiped clean. For men, this usually means a traditional black oxford that laces up. Waitresses may wear the women’s equivalent of the same shoe, or a black ballerina flat, loafer or low (but comfortable) pump.
When a sock must be worn with the restaurant shoe, it should be a black dress sock. Socks made with natural materials, like cotton or bamboo, are often more comfortable and can control odor and sweating as well.
Small details matter in fine dining uniforms, like sock colors.
It’s not only about what the servers are wearing. Fine dining restaurants usually have a set of grooming and appearance guidelines for its waitstaff that goes beyond being freshly showered. Cut or well-manicured fingernails, no visible tattoos or facial piercings, minimal to no perfume, cologne and jewelry is pretty typical for these environments. Standards may also be set for facial hair for the male servers (a lack of or specific guidelines) as well as the style of haircut (cleancut, etc.). Waitresses are often instructed to wear their hair in the same style, like a low bun.
Just like the menu and setting, the server uniform is another element which adds to the excellence of a fine dining restaurant. Traditional, clean and formal. A white dress shirt, black pants and black tie is the most common, although there are ways to personalize the uniform to the restaurant’s brand. Last but not least, grooming is part of the server uniform, too. Consider guidelines for everything from piercings to hairstyles. Combined with a five-star menu, exceptional service and just the right ambiance, your restaurant outshine the competition and have guests coming back for seconds.

The average man owns less than 25 ties. Longtime TieMart customer Lance H. isn’t exactly average. He owns well over 3,000 neckties! (Pretty sure that qualifies him as a grabatologist.) Let’s take a closer look at his tie collection.
Lance was introduced to TieMart through his late partner, who was one of TieMart’s first customers. His partner wore a suit to work everyday, so he had quite the collection of ties, too.
Lance is now retired and spends his days improving his 1910-era home. But retirement doesn’t stop him from wearing a tie.
“I love to dress up,” Lance said. “I am old fashioned in the sense I feel dressing up means wearing a dress shirt and tie at least with some nice slacks and a suit.”

Even with thousands of ties in his collection, Lance has a very hard time walking through a department store without buying a tie. For the most part, he heads to the clearance section to look for a deal. When he shops at TieMart, however, he doesn’t click straight to sale and clearance.
“[TieMart has] many great ties at much less than the department store prices,” Lance said.
As far as Lance’s collection goes, striped and paisley ties are his all-time favorite. However, knowing his love of ties, his friends and family have gifted him many other patterns over the years. His accessory collection doesn’t stop with ties either. Lance also has an appreciation for tie bars, cummerbunds, satin scarves, socks, and more recently, face masks.

April 1, 2022: Still working from home? You’re not alone!
Two years later, millions of Americans are still spending their 9 to 5 workday in the comfort of their own home.
And, wow, has business attire changed. Fitted, bland dress slacks are out; soft and comfortable pajama pants are in.
But, you guys, it has been TWO YEARS. Frankly, it’s time to put a little more effort into getting dressed in the morning.
Introducing TieMart’s newest product: Matching neckties and pajama pants. Now, your top and bottom half can be perfectly coordinated during the workweek without losing any of the comfort you’ve grown accustomed to.
We gave TieMart customer Josh B. Yawny early access to this new line. He recently wore the blue plaid pj tie and pants set.
“TieMart’s matching tie and pj pants have taken the guesswork out of dressing for video calls,” Josh told us. “All I have to do is look at my pants to know which tie to wear. My boss is happy to see me in a tie, but little does he know how comfy I really am.”
To get your hands on this new arrival, oh wait:
HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY!
Our pj pants and ties may not be real but, all jokes aside, we do have quite a few other new arrivals here at TieMart. And, hey, we won't judge if you wear these with your favorite pajama bottoms.

Take a trip down the Savannah River and experience the rich history of this great port city.
Paddle-driven riverboat cruises are a staple of the river and provide locals and tourists alike with an opportunity to dine, unwind and learn about the historical aspects of the river. TieMart customer Savannah Riverboat Cruises has been running those cruises since 1991 when owner (and captain) Jonathan H. Claughton brought the 400-passenger River Queen to the area.
Thirty years later, the company has had four riverboats in its fleet, including its most recent addition: The Georgia Queen. This 1000-passenger vessel boasts three grand ballrooms with over 15,000-square feet of dining space and a 5000-square foot, fully open-air top deck.
It takes a large staff to run these boats. (The Georgia Queen can accommodate 200 crew members!) Captain Claughton prides his success in his good service, which includes a well-dressed crew.
Savannah Riverboat Cruises found TieMart via an internet search for black uniform ties. One style does not suit all when you have such a large staff and variety of positions. Luckily, the company has no problem coordinating black ties at TieMart: Safe and easy-to-use black clip-on uniform ties for marine crew, black crossover ties for ticket agents and black bow ties for dining room staff.
Grab your boat shoes and experience the Savannah River! Should you find yourself in the area, a variety of riverboat tours run daily. From sightseeing to sunsets, luncheons to dinners, you'll find the perfect itinerary to suit your interests and schedule.

Early spring is a tricky time to dress when you live in a colder climate like we do. Spring fever gets real and we all want to start wearing brighter colors and less layers. But, let’s be honest, we could definitely see another few inches of snow next week. Before you pull out the shorts and flip flops, ties are a great way to gradually transition your wardrobe to warmer temps. Here are 5 types of ties to wear in early spring.
For the next couple months, it’s okay to add brighter colors to your 9 to 5 neckwear. But look for ties that subtly combine those lighter colors with neutral or darker shades. Or, perhaps a splash of a bright color on a heavier weight fabric that we’d typically associate with winter. This lime green plaid tie below is a great example. The bright green is toned down by the neutral gray. While the fabric is a thicker cotton/silk combo, we can definitely imagine it coming in a thicker winter wool, too.
Florals are everywhere come March 1, ties included. Floral patterns have come a long way in recent years, and there are so many options available. Rather than going straight for the bright, bold florals, in early spring look for ones that combine light and dark colors or are more subdued colors overall. For example, this dusty blue and black floral tie. We see a couple lighter shades, like dusty blue, pink and sage, in the pattern. But those are balanced by black, burnt orange and a darker olive green for a perfect early-spring pattern.
We love watching the seasons change as we pull and ship orders of solid ties. Just before the official start of spring, those dark wintertime hues like burgundy, navy blue and hunter green are slowly replaced by lighter and brighter hues. However, this doesn’t mean everyone's jumping headfirst into spring pastels. Instead, those middle ground, medium shades gain popularity in early spring. A subdued wisteria purple, rather than eggplant; dusty blue in place of navy; sage green instead of hunter green.
Now that you’re a pro at selecting pattern and solid ties for early spring, combine that knowledge and take a look at the striped tie. To keep your look from being too collegiate, select striped ties in tone-on-tone colors. (Again, the same not-too-light, not-too-dark colors we described above.) This sage striped tie below is the perfect combo. The colors are refreshing, but won’t look too out of place in that late March snowstorm that, unfortunately, is probably on its way.
Bow ties aren’t just for professors and formal occasions these days. We’re seeing more and more bow ties in the workplace. Consider refreshing your spring wardrobe by wearing a bow tie, too. Bow ties come in just as many colors and patterns as neckties, so you can follow any of the spring guidelines above when selecting your new bow. This purple bow tie below is a great choice for early spring and combines a few of the designs discussed above. It plays on the floral patterns and tone-on-tone stripes, and the colors are a combination of light, dark and neutral.
It won't be long until we're all wearing sunglasses, less layers and bright colors. While we wait for the temperatures to soar, slowly transition your wardrobe away from the winter blues. Ties are a great place to start. For that early-spring look, wear ties that combine light and dark colors, or are medium shades. It's okay to start wearing typically warm-weather pattern ties, like florals, too. Just select pattern ties that follow those color guidelines above.
